Monitor Usage
How many days does a Monitor last?
Each monitoring session will last for a maximum of 14 days, and the Monitor is non-reusable. Once removed, please discard it following all applicable local regulations related to the disposal of electronic equipment, batteries, sharps, and materials potentially exposed to interstitial fluids.
Finding the right application site
The Monitor has been researched and thoroughly tested to be applied on the rear of the upper arm for the best experience. We do not recommend applying the Monitor on your abdomen, thigh, buttocks, back, or areas where excessive activities or movements may cause the Monitor to fall off.
Please avoid using body lotions or creams in the area as they may interfere with Monitor readings and impair the Monitor's adhesion. Select a smooth skin area free from birthmarks, stretch marks, scars, or lumps at least one inch away from where you usually inject your insulin.
Does it hurt to wear?
The Monitor is minimally invasive; most users feel no pain at all, while a minority experience slight pain, which also diminishes over time. If you continue to experience pain 12 hours after application, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Impact of tattoos on the application site.
Tattoos are not definitive restrictions regarding the application (sometimes the tattoos cover the whole arms, etc.); it doesn't mean that the user is unable to use the Monitor. However, sometimes, for rare conditions, the ingredients of ink can lead to less effective adhesion or compromised Monitor accuracy.
Can I wear it myself?
The Monitor is intended for simplified applications and can be applied independently by the user or with assistance from a family member or friend if they encounter difficulties.
Will I feel uncomfortable having the Monitor on my body?
The Monitor adopts the tiny fibre filament design, the filament is very soft, and you can barely feel it once applied. The Monitor is only a quarter of the size and weighs 1.6 grams.
Do I need to apply the Patch?
Although the adhesive with the Monitor is sufficient for typical usage (including showering or swimming), please avoid excessive exposure to hot water. We do recommend applying the Patch right after the Monitor application to prevent any exceptional incidents that cause the Monitor to fall off.
Do I need to take it off and put it back on when I take a shower?
Although the device itself has a protection level of IP28, it can operate 1.5 meters (4.92 feet) underwater for 30 minutes at max. It's recommended to apply the Patch for enhanced stability with the applied Monitor. Please also be aware that the Monitor is a single-use product. The monitoring session will be terminated if removed from the body.
Is the Monitor non-invasive?
The Monitor is minimally invasive. The fibre filament of the Monitor is in contact with interstitial fluid, but it is tiny and soft at 5 mm in length.
How do I start and activate the Monitor? How long does it take to start working?
Once logged into the Syai Tag/Syai Essential App and applied your Monitor, please follow the on-screen instructions to activate the Monitor. The first 30 minutes after activation is a warm-up period. After that, you can see your glucose data in the app.
About CGM/Monitor
What is continuous glucose monitoring (CGM)?
Continuous glucose monitoring is a wearable technology that automatically tracks glucose levels in real-time and transmits them to your devices. You can check your glucose level anytime at a glance. You can also review how your glucose changes over a few hours or days to analyze glucose trends. Monitoring your glucose level in real-time can help you make more informed decisions about balancing your food, physical activity, and overall well-being.
What are the components of the CGMS?
A complete package consists of a ①Sensor, a ②Transmitter (which are combined to form a Monitor), and an Applicator. The corresponding apps from the Syai Health software collection can be used to view real-time glucose readings.
Is it necessary to wear the Monitor?
The clinical benefits of the Syai ® Continuous Glucose Monitoring System include reductions in acute diabetes events, all-cause hospitalizations, hospitalized ketoacidosis episodes, improved well-being, and decreased disease burden.
The Syai ® Continuous Glucose Monitoring System can help reliably identify people with diabetes who are at risk for hypoglycemia and is a powerful intervention for the avoidance of mild and severe hypoglycemia.
What does 24-hour continuous monitoring mean?
The Monitor is always on and recording glucose levels—whether you are showering, working, exercising, or sleeping. It's designed to function without downtime for the lifespan (14-day monitoring period).
What are the advantages compared to fingerpricks?
You can regularly check your glucose levels using a standard blood glucose meter. Many people do just that. However, finger-prick tests only measure glucose at one moment in time. It is like reading one page of a book. Doing more fingerstick tests gives you more snapshots, which can offer clues to what is happening with your blood sugar levels.
Apart from convenience (eliminates frequent fingerpricks and provides the user with real-time data feedback), the Monitor also works with digital software integration to provide standardized analytics. CGM readings hold different time concepts against BG results, helping the user to discover the pattern with a consistent picture.
How do I make use of my glucose data?
The Monitor makes it easier to manage Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.
In short, the glucose data and analytics will:
Show you a holistic pattern of diabetes impacts: the Monitor measures glucose levels every few minutes. That data shows a complete picture of how your glucose levels change over time. This information can help you and your provider better understand how food, activity, stress, and illness will impact your glucose levels.
Lead to personalized care experience: The Monitor does not give the whole story of how diabetes affects you. It tells you when glucose goes up or down, not why. You can download glucose data and reports from your device (through the mobile app), review them for patterns and trends, and leverage your healthcare experience by sharing the data for effective clinic visits with the HCP.
Who benefits from continuous glucose monitoring?
Almost everyone! Data supports the use of CGMS for essentially everyone with diabetes, including type 1/2 diabetes as well as prediabetes. CGMS has been experimented with individuals without diabetes, including athletes. If you have type 2 diabetes, even without insulin injection demands, CGMS can be very beneficial. The continuous monitoring with standardized reports provides users with insights and analytics, enabling them to understand how their bodies respond to what they consume. The utilization of CGMS can result in significant lifestyle changes for people living with diabetes.
App Usage
Unable to connect the Monitor
Kindly review the following scenarios to determine your current situation:
1. Inability to activate or connect when attempting to apply a new monitor:
- Please verify whether Bluetooth is enabled. If it is not enabled, connection cannot be facilitated.
- Ensure that you have adhered to the steps outlined in the application guide to enable the necessary features and grant the appropriate permissions.
2. The App indicates disconnection with the applied Monitor:
- Please verify whether Bluetooth is enabled. If it is not enabled, connection cannot be facilitated.
- The app will automatically reconnect with the monitor upon brief disconnection; please wait for a short while or tap the 'Connect Now' button on the home page and follow the instructions.
Should you encounter difficulties in establishing a connection following these procedures, please do not hesitate to contact us or your local distributor for further assistance and troubleshooting.
Glucose readings in the application are different from my finger-prick readings. Why?
The fingerprick test measures the glucose level in the blood, whereas the Monitor measures glucose in your interstitial fluid, not your blood. The level of glucose in interstitial fluid reacts more slowly than the level of glucose in the blood. Therefore, users of the Monitor should be aware that there is usually a lag of approximately 15-20 minutes between rises (or falls) in glucose levels compared with blood glucose. The CGMS can assist with seeing your glucose values and trends in real-time in interstitial fluid, as mentioned above.
What to do with a HI/LO reading?
Note: If you feel uncomfortable, please seek professional medical advice if necessary.
When "HI"/"LO" appears in the reading, there are two possibilities:
HI: Glucose level is above 25 mmol/L or 450 mg/dL; or the operating temperature is above 45 ℃;
LO: Glucose level is lower than 2 mmol/L or 36 mg/dL, or the operating temperature is lower than 2 ℃.
Monitor functionality is affected under extreme operating temperatures.
Please check if the Monitor is working properly. If the readings are fluctuating exceptionally, please wait 60 minutes and check again. The app will also try to reconnect the Monitor when possible. The Monitor will be terminated if you receive HI/LO readings more than three times consecutively. Please contact us in this case.
Will the monitoring continue when HI/LO is displayed?
When you see a HI/LO reading on the homepage, don't worry, the monitoring will continue, but if you feel unwell when "HI/LO" is displayed on the monitoring page, please check your BG and seek HCP assistance as needed.
The Monitor is disconnected.
The Syai Tag/Syai Essential app will automatically reconnect to the Monitor when disconnection occurs; please wait for a few seconds, or you can manually reconnect by tapping the "Connect Now" button.
Can the Monitor be reconnected once I confirmed to "End My Session", but did not remove it from my arm?
No. The Monitor will disable itself after you tap "End My Session" and cannot be reconnected. You will need to use a new Monitor to connect again.
Will my historical data be retained after I change the Monitor?
Yes. All historical data is stored under your account. However, you may still need to synchronize the data when the Monitor expires (if there is missing data, a system notification will pop up); otherwise, the data will not be saved to your account.
Why am I being asked to grant location permission?
We won't collect the info or sell it. It's used for system functionality concerns for the nearby device discovery feature to work with different variations of iOS and Android systems (in other words, compatibility), and we will strictly follow our privacy policy agreement concerning relevant regulation compliance.
